Herd Advance on FAS TV: Meeting the challenges of farmers head on with Stockman

We were delighted to feature on FAS TV recently to share the story behind Herd Advance, our vision for the future of livestock management, and the positive impact that technology like Stockman is having on Scottish farms. Watch the full episode here.

From on-farm challenges to innovation: The Herd Advance Story

In the FAS TV episode, Herd Advance founders Jilly and Murdoch Grant discussed the realities of managing livestock in a fast-changing industry and how their experiences as farmers inspired them to create a smarter, welfare-led solution.

Having faced the same challenges many farmers do Jilly and Murdoch saw an opportunity to use technology to make livestock management more efficient, and welfare-focused.

Their goal was simple: To create a tool that supports better decision-making, improves animal welfare, and make the process of selection and drafting stress free.

That vision became Stockman a practical, easy-to-use livestock performance and health monitoring system with integration remote drafting and selection capabilities.

The role of collaboration

Herd Advance was founded on the belief that progress in agriculture happens when farmers, vets, and technology providers work together.

During our segment we enlisted the support of our vet Tim Geraghty of Dunnydeer Veterinary Group who shared his professional insights into how Stockman supports proactive herd health management and strengthens collaboration between farmers and vets.

By making data more accessible and simpler to attain, Stockman helps spot potential health issues earlier, enabling farmers to be proactive in their herd health management and make welfare-led decisions that benefit livestock and long-term farm sustainability.

Real-world impact: Robbie Newlands Demo Farm Experience

Our episode also featured Robbie Newlands of Cluny Farm, one of Herd Advance’s demo farmers, who spoke about his first-hand experience using Stockman.

Robbie shared how Stockman has transformed the way he manages his cattle from simplifying drafting to improving herd monitoring and supporting daily decision-making.

The result? Greater confidence in herd health, better oversight when it comes to drafting, and more time to focus on the things that really matter on the farm.

Looking Ahead At Herd Advance, we’re proud to play our part in that shift. By combining practical experience with digital innovation, we’re continuing to support farmers, vets, and the wider livestock community in advancing the future of agriculture.
